Tom leads the Sydney studio of Eckersley O’Callaghan (EOC) having previously worked as part of their London facades team. With a background in architecture and environmental design Tom embodies the integrated design and environmental performance central to EOCs engineering philosophy. Tom has experience delivering technically challenging designs for a wide range of complex projects.

After a first degree in engineering Tom worked as an environmental design engineer and completed an architectural masters before becoming a facade engineer around ten years ago. While working in London Tom collaborated on many defining projects working with architects including ZHA, Foster + Partners, AHMM, Morris and Co. and Make.

Having moved to Australia in 2017 Tom worked for Grimshaw before re-joining EOC to start the Sydney studio. Originally established to manage the Atlassian Central project EOC Sydney provides the same 50-50 split of facades and structures with a focus on design excellence, architectural collaboration, and environmental efficiency. Now with great projects in NSW, Qld, Vic and WA, Tom manages an Australian team while leveraging the global expertise of the EOC group.

Sean is a Principal at fjcstudio, a multi-disciplinary design studio noted for its commitment to design excellence, innovation, sustainability, reconciliation and the enhancement of the public domain. Sean is Head of Architecture in the Sydney studio.

Sean has led a broad spectrum of projects across varying typologies including large-scale urban renewal, commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects. He values the role of architecture in making the city and is dedicated to creating rich urban and spatial experiences.

Paul’s façade design encompasses innovative architectural engineering; blending bespoke façade elements throughout renovation and conservation projects introducing modern design elements, and incorporating the latest thermal, acoustic and sustainable details. Numerous investigation and forensic engineering façade commissions have been completed with regards to aging multi-storey residential and commercial blocks, and a large number of replacement cladding schemes.

Paul’s focus is split between conceptual design, developing high quality architectural solutions and diving into the detail of blending the old and the new. Paul’s expertise includes: large scale commercial, retail; institutional and leading multi-disciplinary mixed use projects; conversion and re-use of Heritage-listed structures.

Todd provides strategic advice to clients dealing with aging façades including: failure and forensic investigation, condition and diagnostic assessments, life cycle analysis, capital expenditure, maintenance planning, as well as the design of remedial and refurbishment solutions. Having started his career designing and detailing facades, he realised that it was the failure and modification of existing envelopes that interested him the most. He has a keen interest in useful digital data capture onsite, provided this delivers his clients real value and clarity in decision making. Todd is a Chartered Professional Engineer with rope access and confined space access qualifications and has operated as lead investigator on several high-profile existing buildings in the UK, Hong Kong, PNG and Australia.

Scott is responsible for managing the repositioning of Marquette’s portfolio of assets including planning, design, and construction delivery. Scott’s role is focused on assessing existing assets and identifying areas for physical and operational improvement. Often these ‘value add’ improvements involve some form of treatment to the façade, lobby upgrade, expansion of gross floor area and major upgrade to the services. Scott has been involved in numerous retail and office building refurbishments and has keen interest in the alignment of the improvements with positive sustainability outcomes.

With over 20 years industry experience, Christina has navigated a successful career path and developed the majority of her skills and expertise during her time at Buildcorp. She commenced in the role of contracts administrator as the first female on the delivery side of the business whilst also completing a degree in Construction Management at QUT. In 2013, after successfully delivering projects in the new build, fitout and refurbishment space, Christina was promoted to Project Manager, again the first female in this role.

In 2018, Christina transitioned into the role of Bid Manager, helping to lead the front-end team securing new work for the business. This has included establishing a presence in the remedial sector, developing methodologies, and securing various ACP replacement and façade refurbishment projects. In this role Christina continues to solve problems offering buildability advice and solutions to achieve a clients vision and overcome challenging obstacles on projects.

Having joined Populous in 2017, Chris has designed iconic sporting venues across Asia Pacific. His portfolio includes Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong, Te Kaha Multi-Use Arena in New Zealand, the National Speed Skating Oval in China and the West Coast Eagles Training Facility in Australia.

With a particular interest in producing designs that respond to the environmental and urban framework, Chris endeavours to create designs that seamlessly blend aesthetics, functionality, and innovation, contributing to a more environmentally conscious and visually captivating built environment.

Chris has extensive experience in façade and roof design, leading the Populous team’s façade division on multiple projects, while integrating the latest modelling and analysis software technologies in the design process

Andrew is passionate about making positive change through the application of regenerative design principles. He is an advocate for the important role that large scale civic projects play in shaping the cities and environments of the future, providing incredible potential for better than net zero outcomes, not just for the buildings themselves but also their surrounding communities. He believes architecture has the power to connect people with each other and with their environment by drawing upon the specific climatic and social conditions of place.

Andrew has a strong desire to produce exemplary design outcomes that shift the expectations of what buildings can be and how they integrate with their context and climate. His systems thinking approach enables the whole project team to leverage their unique expertise to create synergistic outcomes. In over 20 years’ experience, Andrew has developed a thorough understanding of the technical requirements of buildings and construction which enables him to test outcomes in a systemic way.

Richard Fairhead has spent his career (25+ years) specializing in Building Envelope on both new and existing buildings, across multiple countries, including Canada, UAE, China, Singapore, Bangladesh, Australia and New Zealand. Richard’s ability to understand design, analyse and test existing buildings and the interaction between disciplines, provides a unique perspective to aid clients with successful financial investments to achieve energy efficiencies and tenancy comfort. Richard’s practical approach to whole building design is a key aspect he brings to ensuring the building’s overall design works as a whole, rather than individual.

Richard has worked on many prominent projects which include: James Cook University Technology Innovation Centre, University Sunshine Coast Petrie Campus Foundation Building, UQ, JCU & University Canberra Student Accommodation projects , Gold Coast University Hospital, 1 William Street, , Auckland University of Technology A1 Building, Auckland Park Hyatt, Auckland International Airport Extension and many more.

Considered an industry specialist in his field, he has supplied expert witness testimony on numerous building envelope failures cases.

Balesh holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and boasts over 15 years of extensive expertise in façade and structural engineering. His career in façade engineering includes pivotal roles at GJames, Australia's foremost integrated Glass & Aluminium manufacturer, and Meinhardt, one of the largest independent engineering consultancies. Throughout these positions, he played a crucial part in executing numerous commercial and residential high-rise projects. Presently, he serves as the Façade Engineering Lead, QLD, at Arup.

A dedicated contributor to collaborative research initiatives, Balesh specializes in pioneering secure design solutions for façade systems. His proficiency extends to academia, where he played a significant role in establishing a façade engineering course at a university. His deep commitment to the industry is evidenced through active participation as a technical committee member for several Australian Standards, notably influencing recent updates to glazing standards. His contributions have garnered him recognition and prestigious accolades, including the 'Emerging Leader Award' and 'Standards Hero' from Standards Australia. Presently, Balesh chairs Engineers Australia's Structural College Queensland, further underscoring his unwavering dedication to the profession.

Jim had his beginnings in diverse civil engineering fields, gravitating into structural engineering, then residing as a structural engineer for 6 years amongst the breath-taking, high-rise facades of Hong Kong, which inspired in him a passion to learn the mystery behind that most fatally flawed engineering material – glass!

Returning to Australia, his focus shifted to learn all concerning the pioneering and challenging discipline of façade engineering. He joined the G.James’ family as an engineer, and has appreciated the opportunity to grow within this humble company possessing an encyclopedia of façade knowledge accumulated over 100+ years of operation.

Unbeknownst to him at the time, inhouse R&D, design, testing, manufacturing, installation and project management of façades turned out to be quite unique on this planet. Modern manufacturing has seen most renowned façade contractors depart from vertically integrated business models, to mimic Boeing & Airbus, who no longer manufacture their own components, but only assemble components sourced from external specialist manufacturers…thereby dispersing their knowledge.

Jim also inspires a generation of future façade engineers and architects through part-time lecturing and post-graduate collaborative research with several Brisbane universities. Volunteer work in technical committees progressing Australian Standards is a further rewarding aspect of his career.

Aaron joined ARM in Melbourne in 2010. Since then he’s delivered cultural and educational buildings around the country, and now heads up ARM’s business in Queensland. He’s interested in delivering complex façade systems by harnessing sub-contractors expertise and skill, and negotiating a path through contemporary contracts to deliver them.

Aaron has delivered facades with many different single and double skin methods. He’s worked extensively with Glass Reinforced Concrete and Plastic (GRC and GRP), glass and steel facades, solid aluminium facades and printed facades. He’s also delivered a Passiv Haus compliant envelope. All facades are deeply connected to the concept of the building and require much effort to collaborate to achieve the best outcome for the project.

Lee maintains the role of Technical Manager – Façade for Lendlease across Australia, linking into the Lendlease international team. He has 37 years’ experience in the industry, coming from a design and project management background. Lee is a Technical Manager operating within the Lendlease Integrated Solutions Technical Team. This team of Subject Matter Experts provide clarity, value, and certainty to Lendlease projects, ensuring that the most effective solutions are integrated across all trades design and delivery.

Lee has a broad base of experience working as a façade contractor, specialist consultant and main contractor across projects located in Australia, Asia and the Middle East. He has design, project management, production management, and general business management skills obtained within the glazing industry in Australia and Singapore.

Lee has an in-depth knowledge of façade solutions, elements and materials including glazing, precast concrete, masonry (including brick inserts or slips), roofing and many cladding materials and solutions. This knowledge extends beyond the technical matters of materials and construction techniques and importantly leverages the complex supply chains behind what are typically Design, Supply and Install façade solutions.

Nick commenced working as a structural engineer with Connell Wagner in 2004. He pivoted his career towards the design of special structures, glass and façade systems when working with Dewhurst Macfarlane in New York from 2008-10. Since 2011, Nick has been working as a façade specialist with Arup (initially in Melbourne, now based in Adelaide) and is presently the Building Envelope (façade) skills leader for Arup’s Australasia region.

Beyond façades, Nick is an advocate for the Circular Economy, contributing to a research project in the field as well as speaking on panels and providing advice on Arup’s Circular Building Toolkit. Nick believes we should try to avoid the use of products and systems which are not readily dissemblable (e.g. adhesives!), and seek systems and processes which enable re-use of materials and components, at all stages of the project lifecycle.

Nick also contributes to growing talent in the Engineering industry: as a member of Consult Australia’s SA Chapter committee, as a past member of the industry advisory board at the School of Architecture & Civil Engineering at the University of Adelaide, as well as other volunteer roles which enable him to help inspire school aged Australians to consider engineering career pathways.

Samantha is passionate about delivering high-performance buildings and achieving greater clarity in the industry as to what a high-performance building represents. She is currently a Board Director at the Building Designers Association of Australia and has been actively involved with The Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) and the Building Designers Association of Australia (BDAA). Samantha has used her technical modelling skills, and rigour to improve the overall level of performance of buildings in Australia to influence and guide the outcomes of current and future NCC requirements in relation to energy efficiency, comfort and fabric performance.

Michael’s focus is on innovation, strategy, market, channel and product development for the Australian commercial facades segment, concentrating on the development of the AZURE® Façade System.

Prior to BlueScope, Michael has extensive experience within technical design, fabrication, supply, installation and launch-to-market various facade solutions for leading global companies from Europe, North America and Asia into Australian architectural construction projects, creating solutions in ventilated facade material in steel, aluminium, porcelain, terracotta, engineered stone, cementitious and composite metal/wood laminated façade panels.

Professional with over 8 years of experience in the stone surfaces industry. Iván is passionate about all topics related to architecture and engineering, always keeping up with the fast-paced changes and stay up to date with the latest trends.

His extensive experience in several roles allowed him to gain deep knowledge that now applies to the world of facades.

He considers his main strengths are responsibility and commitment, always seeking to create bridges between the most advanced architectural design, industrial production, and the later supply and installation on-site. Iván focuses on adding value in every project he steps in, forging close interaction ties with each partner, and positioning Dekton as the ideal material for facades, both for its quality and the excellence in service and technical support.

With his expertise and dedication, he has become a valuable asset in each façade project he intervenes, offering innovative and high-quality solutions.

Ron Hull, P.E, CDT® is the Global Director of High-Performance Products for Kuraray. Ron is based in the USA and holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Facade Tectonics Institute (FTI) and CSI South Florida Chapter and is also the Secretary and Treasurer of the Glazing Industry Code Committee (GICC). Ron is an active member of the Florida AIA, Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA).

Rob is enthusiastic about exploring architectural design through new technologies. This manifests in part, as a keen interest in contemporary construction methodologies, facade systems, biophilic and sustainable design. Rob can fluently translate complex ideas and design solutions into simple, digestible descriptions. Through Rob’s multi-sector experience, one thing remains a constant: his commitment to delivering architecture that improves the public realm, delivering better out comes for occupants and the wider community.

Brian Hubb is a Founder, Principal, and Senior Building Science Specialist at RDH Building Science. With over 30 years of experience as a consultant practicing exclusively in the field of building science, he is a practical façade engineer and researcher. He has broad experience with a variety of building enclosure systems, delivering consistent innovative solutions. Brian brings a unique blend of theoretical and hands-on knowledge gained from designing façades for new buildings, as well as completing hundreds of forensic investigations, rehabilitation, and research projects. He has extensive experience with high-rise and iconic façade systems, components, and materials, designing new and innovative facade systems for high-rise wood and Passive House projects. An engaging and vibrant presenter, he regularly speaks at seminars, conferences, and guest lectures on a wide range of building science and façade engineering topics.

Anne is a Technical Director leading Sustainable Buildings and Precincts at Mott MacDonald in Queensland. Anne has a background in building physics and extensive experience in future strategy and insights advisory.

Anne is a Green Star Accredited Professional, a Green Star Assessor, a Green Building Champion (2022) and is on the expert reference panel for the Green Building Council of Australia for People and Wellbeing. Anne is also on the WELL cities Advisory Panel for the International Well Building Institute and on WELL Faculty. Anne is part if the independent advisory panel for the Brisbane City Council who provide independent advice on strategic developments and schemes and on the Committee for Brisbane Enterprise committee.

Anne provided the keynote at the Zak World of Facades conference in 2018 and presented at the 2020 online conference on the Future of Facades. Anne has worked on projects including the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland that included a fully operable naturally ventilating façade and Cairns Ideas Centre at James Cook University. Anne is currently working on the precinct design for Northshore Hamilton which will be the home of the 2032 Olympic Village.

Led by her boundless passion for architecture, Jess has become a highly regarded principal at Fender Katsalidis, and now leads our Brisbane studio. Since her early days with the practice, she has always displayed a penchant for planning and design development. Almost two decades on, she has blossomed into the quintessential modern architect and exudes the winning culture and ethos that FK represents.

With unwavering tenacity, Jess completed her architecture studies at RMIT with honours and landed a job documenting projects at Fender Katsalidis soon after.
